About Waikato
Postgraduate
Medicine Inc.

Waikato Postgraduate Medicine Inc. is an incorporated society run by medical practitioners for medical practitioners. Its main purpose is to advance Continuing Medical Education, Quality Assurance and Research in the Waikato area and elsewhere in New Zealand. One of the ways in which its objectives are achieved is the provision of a professional Programme Management Service. This means provision of the highest quality service at an economical price, with an overall concern for excellence of performance rather than monetary gain.

There are approximately 250 members, including General Practitioners and Health Waikato medical staff.

The Society is run by an Executive Committee, whose members are either elected at the Annual General Meeting or appointed by the various Medical Departments or Colleges.

Funding comes from membership subscriptions, meeting fees, subsidies from Health Waikato and the Waikato Faculty of the RNZCGP, and Researched Medicines Industry (RMI) sponsorship.

WPGMI staff organise, manage and run programmes, seminars and workshops. Most of these events are held at the Bryant Education Centre in the Waikato Hospital Campus. The facilities are excellent and the staff are very helpful and friendly.

The staff also keep track of the continuing education credits for members. At the end of each year certificates are sent out detailing the credits earned and the list of seminars or workshops attended.

A video library has recently been set up and is updated frequently. Videos are available for hire by members, as is a teleconferencing unit.
